How to Iron-on:
Iron-on patches work by using heat to melt the adhesive on the back of the patch, which then bonds to the fabric as it cools. Here are some tips for applying iron-on patches:
- Use the right tools: You'll need an iron with adjustable temperature settings, an ironing board, and a pressing cloth. A heat press can also be used for more precise temperature control.
- Prepare the fabric: Make sure the fabric is clean and free of wrinkles.
- Protect the patch and fabric: Place a pressing cloth between the iron and the patch to prevent heat damage.
- Apply the heat: Press the iron down firmly on the patch for at least 60 seconds, without moving the iron. You can repeat the process for another 60 seconds.
- Check the bond: After about 5 to 10 minutes, check that the patch is fully bonded.
- Avoid steam: Steam can affect the glue and prevent the patch from sticking.
- Consider the fabric: Some materials, like leather or heat-sensitive synthetics, are prone to scorching and heat damage. For these items, you should sew-on instead.
